4th Mount Dora Florida Highwaymen Art Show & Sale Friday and Saturday – January 8th & 9th – 2010 Donnelly Park – Mount Dora.

This is a show that just might be worth a road trip. I saw it in Fort Lauderdale: inspirational.

King Mango Strut

There were a couple of grapes in the parade, looking very purple and quite a bit like an artist and her primary cohort.

With a nod to the Coconut Grove Grapevine, who in turn gave a nod to Phil Brown.

A touch of Basel

“Joaquim,” Acrylic on Canvas, 30″x 24″

Joaquim is hanging for Art Basel.

Go visit if you are part of the contemporary art circus that is Miami this week:  3302 N. Miami Avenue in the Wynwood Art District. Visit the blog of the One Ear Society: Wynnwood’s American Art for installation photos and to read more.

Fresco class

Currently teaching a class on Fresco to young artists.  At Windisch-Hunt Fine Art Gallery, it is both satisfying and challenging. Engaging and inspiring the kids is worth the effort.

Spending the week on scaffolding, doing faux wood grain on steel beams. Outside, in the sun. Record temps in beautiful south Florida.

It’s a cool project, though.

Sorry, no before shot

I can’t even begin to list the surfaces that my brushes, sponges and rags touched.  This was a transformation of incredible proportions.

The intention was to make it rich, and to make it look like it had been there forever.

Achieved.

The kids at South Pointe Elementary in Miami Beach worked on theme murals – they guided and instructed and I was just an assistant.  That is the cool thing about working with kids.  No fear, creativity endless.  Their energy was contagious, and the ones who have had less exposure to the “arts” were often the most enthusiastic.  They painted.  I facilitated.  It was a great day, with an awesome result and lots of proud young artists.

My studio

Working with interior designers or directly with a homeowner is always an artistic exercise: combining color, texture and media for the perfect effect.  Laying everything out, I get a sense of compatibility and contrast.
